11/24/2003 The Desert Sun, Palm Springs, CA Two Die in Small Plane Crash Near Big Bear Two people flying out of Palm Springs International Airport died over the weekend in the crash of a small airplane near Big Bear, the Civil Air Patrol reported Sunday. In a cruel twist of fate, the two had come to Palm Springs to participate in a Civil Air Patrol program to train members in operations like: search and rescue, homeland security and disaster relief.
"We sent our aircraft into the air on a real mission," said Lt. Tiffany Kolosick, public affairs officer for the California Wing -- Civil Air Patrol, a United States Air Force auxiliary.
Officials from the Civil Air Patrol say this is the first time the California Wing of that organization has lost an air crew in more than six years. The Civil Air Patrol will also launch its own internal investigation into the crash.

Editorial note: As long as the CAP is in the hands of puritan religious fanatics like Capt. Paul Gerst from the Squadron 40 who will not tolerate words like, fuck and asshole, it will remain to be dangerous paramilitary organization which is unable to sustain its mission. In addition, it appears that the only purpose for existence of the CAP is a tax avoidance purpose established for rich lawyers, doctors, politicians etc. etc. etc.... so they can deduct their flying hobby and expensive trips to Hawaii meetings.
Perhaps the IRS audit of all CAP members is long time overdue.
